Well that was quite the weekend of hockey, right? It certainly looked like some of the coaches certainly had a chat to their boys, and results varied greatly. Let’s see what this weeks AIHL Review is like.
Mustangs 0 @ Ice 9, Saturday
I’m wondering if Coach Frantzen got his team to do some reading during the week to fire up his players. Regardless, it worked an absolute treat. Joey Hughes with the hat trick, Webster and Backman with two goals apiece, Ethan Cornford with half a dozen penalty minutes, six goals in the third period …. I guess it was league leaders against the cellar dwellers, so what did we expect?
Thunder 4 @ Northstars 1, Saturday
And I said this would go to a shootout! Three goals from the Thunder in the third (one of which was an empty netter) sealed the win for the visitors from Perth. Christian Ouellet scored two goals in his AIHL début (including the game winner) with Bernard and Breault with two points each for the victors. The lone Northstars goal was scored by Harcharik on the power play at the start of the third.
Adrenaline 3 (SO) @ Bears 2, Saturday
Matt “Guitar” Murphy (I’m giving him this nickname after this guy) with 45 saves in his first AIHL appearance lead the Adrenaline to shootout win over the Bears. Cam Critchlow continued his fine scoring touch with yet another goal, and Greg Oddy is creeping closer to 600 AIHL points with a goal as well. Noseworthy and Brewer with the goals for the home team.
Adrenaline 7 @ Mustangs 3, Sunday
Greg Oddy scored his 600th career point in the second consecutive demolition of the Mustangs. The milestone clicked over when Oddy got the assist on Ales Kratoska’s power play goal at 15:17 of the third period. Josef Rezek scored a hat trick, and Cam Critchlow took outright lead of the AIHL scoring table with a goal and three assists. Max Langelier-Parent scored two goals and an assist for the Mustangs, who managed to pile on 35 shots in a losing effort.
Thunder 4 @ Bears 8, Sunday
Three goals within 56 seconds powered the Bears to victory over the Thunder. Jackson Brewer scored 4 points (1 G, 3 A) and Tomas Landa got two goals and an assist for the Bears, while Jessyko Bernard scored two goals and two assists for Perth. The most amazing thing about this game was how polite it was – only four penalty minutes the entire game, and both of those going against the Thunder.
Ice Dogs 4 @ Northstars 2, Sunday
Rory Rawlyk scored a hat trick and Damien Ketlo made 48 saves on 50 shots as the Ice Dogs defeated the Northstars in Newcastle. Scott Stephenson picked up the other goal as well as an assist for the Ice Dogs, while Jonatan Ruth and Joe Harcharik scored for the Northstars.
