It’s Week 3 of the AIHL season, and all teams have started their battle for the Goodall Cup. So far, the standings comprise of the same top four teams than played in the Finals last year, but it is still very early on so plenty can change.
On to the previews and tips!
Ice Dogs @ Adrenaline, Saturday and Sunday
Sydney, a team that lost once last week, head to Adelaide to face a team that lost twice last week. The Adrenaline looked good at home against the Northstars in the first week, and the Ice Dogs have picked up defenceman Rory Rawlyk. It’ll be a couple of tough games between these teams, which is why I’m predicting a split of the games – one win each.
Ice @ Northstars, Saturday
These two teams always manage to put on a show of Aussie hockey, and I doubt this will be any different. Newcastle seem to have overcome a shaky start, but the Ice have come out of the gates firing on all cylinders. I’m tipping Melbourne in this one.
Brave @ Bears, Saturday
The Brave head to Macquarie this weekend to face the Bears, with these teams at opposite ends of the standings. Unless Kimlin can pull something out of the bag, the Brave will take the points on this one.
Northstars @ Brave, Sunday
I’m looking forward to this game. Newcastle head down to the Brave Cave in a rematch of the 2016 Grand Final game. I’m tipping this one in favour of the Brave, as I think they have just that little bit more firepower at the front. Also, I have seen games there and know just how influential the crowd can be in their games.
Ice @ Bears, Sunday
Once again, the Bears face two of last years finalists in back to back games, and it isn’t looking too good for them. Again, Kimlin has to be on his game to keep the Bears in it, but I’m not sure if we should expect that of him two games in a row.
So if these results work out, here is what the standings will look like:
