2017 AIHL Preview – Week 4

It’s Mothers Day on Sunday – what better way to celebrate the most important woman in your life than by taking her to an AIHL game! You’ll sound like an expert with this week’s AIHL Preview.

Bears @ Thunder, Saturday and Sunday

Sydney had an impressive weekend in Week 3, defeating the Brave and leading the Ice until the game had to be abandoned.  Perth have had the week off, so should come back revitalised and ready to go.  I’m tipping a split between these two teams.

Ice @ Mustangs, Saturday

The first Melbourne Derby of the year matches the league-leading Ice against the cellar dweller Mustangs.  Ice’s Swedish contingent have shown they are a force to be reckoned with, with local boys Joey Hughes and Tommy Powell proving the rest of the team can match it with them.  The Mustangs, on the other hand, have not played for two weeks, and are yet to win a game.  Ice in a canter.

Northstars @ Brave, Saturday

Less than a week later, these two teams go at it again at the same venue.  I’m tipping Coach Starke will remind the Brave how they lost a 4-1 lead, then a 5-3 lead, in their last game.  Brave to win in regulation this time, making sure they finish strongly.

Adrenaline @ Ice Dogs, Saturday

This time Adelaide head to Sydney to play the third game in the series between these teams.  They split the points last weekend, and I think home ice will see the Dogs win this one – unless they don’t have the rink ready in time after last week’s fire.

Adrenaline @ Mustangs, Sunday

Hang on, what?  Adelaide play Sydney on Saturday, then Melbourne on Sunday?  Yep, that’s the way the fixture goes.  And the Adrenaline will suffer for it.  I expect the Mustangs will come out hard after the loss to the Ice the day before, and will take advantage of the propeller-lagged Adrenaline to rack up their first win.

Northstars @ Ice Dogs, Sunday

This is a tough one.  The Ice Dogs will have their tails up after beating the Adrenaline the day before, and the Northstars will be hungry for a win after losing the the Brave twice in three attempts.  I expect this one to go to a shootout, and I think Kelto will out-duel the Northstars goalie.
